Flower Print - January

Over winter break I played a game at Kohl's called 'find the ugliest shirt ever.' This was the result. It is a horrible print shirt, and I enjoy it immensely.

Before picture - My hair isn't brushed, and I look like hell
And this is it from the back...with more epicly bad hair.
Finished product. Much better right?

For this shirt I decided to go with a black cardigan again - but rather than the skin-tight longsleeved one, this is more flowy. It definitely breaks up all the crazy pattern, and I actually got a compliment from my friend Kim on it. I forgot to mention my project at my group, so no new authors yet. Hopefully someone will jump on board!

Kal Martin : Goals for TUSP and January Submission

This is my place to put up my goals for TUSP. I plan on nursing my daughter until she is a year old, which is until about December 2012, and I would like to post up a new shirt every month. That's a total of twelve outfits, and to do it for less than $5 a shirt.

That being said, here is my first post for January 2012.

January 2012
Kal and Zelda (7 weeks)
I ended up wearing this with a black cardigan and dark jeans, so it wasn't that bad. But for a first, I think its's pretty ugly.
From the back - as you can see it is completely sheer.
How about that ruffle down the front? Nursing can be sexy!
Well, I have to say, this is all for now. January personal challenge completed!

Introduction - Welcome

Welcome to The Ugly Shirt Project!

My name is Kal Martin and I am a twenty-two year-old mother, and this is the The Ugly Shirt Project (TUSP). This blog is a project for all nursing mothers to find a hideous shirt that is nursing-friendly and either
a) wearing it confidently in public, or b) accessorizing it so that it doesn't seem quite as hideous.

This blog is about gathering nursing mothers to share stories of 'wardrobe malfunctions,' tips and tricks for wearing nursing-friendly clothes well, and overall being confident in being amazing as a nursing mother. Hopefully it can be a resource for mothers and a way to connect over the little silly struggles of fashion and breast-accessibility.

My challenge to all you reading is to do the following:

  1. Join me! How do you join TUSP? Well, that's easy, just comment here with your email address and I will add you to the list of authors. No need for your name, you don't even have to post up anything if you want. Or ou can just start watching and commenting on posts you find.
  2. Find ugly shirts! Now, finding an ugly shirt is easy, you can choose a rerun from your closet or your past, or you can branch out to thrift stores or your friends' closet. These shirts don't necessarily have to be nursing friendly, or a certain style, they can even be your own creation if you want. My goal is button up oversize shirts because that is most comfortable for me to nurse in. Your style can be completely different - mix and match, layer, go wild!
  3. Post! Post up a picture of your ugly shirt. Either in the mirror in the bathroom, out with friends, or photobomb your friends with the shirt. Found something hideous online? Post that up!
There is one additional challenge - and that is to do this as cheaply as possible. That's why you hit up friends, grandmothers, aunts, thrift stores, garage sales, whatever you want. It's not really a contest, but let's face it we are in a recession, and every penny counts.

What are you waiting for? Comment, join, do something!
